In 2018, Mayor Pro Tem Gary Yep had been elected to a four-year Council term. With the 2020 election, Mayor Pro Tem Yep was elected to be the Mayor of the City of Kerman. His election left an opening on the Council for the District 1 seat.
The four-member City Council opted to appoint a replacement to fill the vacancy rather than go through the long and expensive Special Election process. The Appointment process was noticed by the City Clerk and three applications were received. At the suggestion of some community members, I was one of the applicants.
The other applicants were very qualified to sit on the Council; I was in good company. The City should be proud that there are many experienced, knowledgeable, and qualified candidates willing to serve their community.
At the 27 January 2021 Council meeting, after a short discussion, the four members of the Council appointed me to the District 1 Council seat. I will serve until December 2022. I appreciate the support of the other Council members and look forward to working with them - some again, some for the first time.
I also appreciate the support that this Community has given me. I look forward to working for you.
I'd like to hear from you. If you would like to discuss any matters relating to District 1, or the City as a whole, let me know.
- Kevin Nehring, PLS, Kerman City Council, District 1
