He's not a Politician

Along with this blog space, I also have a Facebook page. According to Facebook, I'm a Politician. At least, that's the best description I could use given the description options available for Facebook pages. I've received some flak for that description, but given that the other options were something like Celebrity Fan Page, Personal Business Page, Family Page, Auto Parts Store Page, and/or Government Agency Page, my options were slim.

Politician it is then.

However, I don't think of myself as a "Politician".

A Politician is - in a simple sense - anyone involved in politics. By that definition, I may become one. By some standards, I may already be one. I did sit as the Vice Chairman on the Kerman Planning Commission. I do participate in the Kerman Streetscape Committee, and was recently appointed to the City Council by the other Council members to fill a void. I am also Fresno County's Representative on the Oversight Committee to the Successor Agency to the City of Kerman Redevelopment Agency. I personally don't consider them political positions as they are appointed positions in a technical capacity. I'm involved with those Committees and Commission, in part, so I can share my technical experience for the betterment of the community. I plan to do the same on the City Council.

Not long ago, I heard a man say he couldn't trust anyone in public office, because "...all politicians are thieves and liars". (His words, not mine.) The discussion continued and he opined that politicians only look out for themselves and not for their constituents, and that each Office held is only a stepping stone for a higher Office. Unfortunately, that may be true in some cases.

I am not one of those cases. By his definition, I'm not a Politician.
